English teacher resource: The EBC Doctor TEFL Guide
Sometimes, traditional teaching resources like course books can be dull or old-fashioned. If you have the imagination and are creative, you can easily make your materials and surprise your students. It is always a great idea to present rather complicated language concepts in a fun and light-hearted way or even in an entertaining context.
The EBC Doctor TEFL Guide is a collection of four different topics. Keep in mind, to be an effective English teacher, you must first understand the topic you will be teaching. You also have to make sure that the way you tackle it in class is engaging and fun. After all, it’s hard to keep your students’ attention when your style is a bit bland.
However, this guide is a very useful English teacher resource because its approach is lighthearted and most of all, fun. EFL students aren’t the only ones who should enjoy English class. Teachers most definitely join in on the fun too. This guidebook is divided into four chapters, each one having its own topic, objective, and English level. Furthermore, each chapter also lists down the additional learning resources that are required for the lesson.
If you are an English teacher, you may feel free to incorporate these lessons into any of your classes. Or, you can switch things up and use any of the chapters as the base for a strong lesson plan. Whichever you choose, we are sure that this English teacher resource will help you make your classes fun and effective.

English teacher resources: Teaching modal auxiliary verbs
Let’s face it. Though we all know that certain parts of grammar are quite easy to teach, other topics can be a lot more challenging both for the students and the teacher. When it comes to a topic like modal auxiliary verbs, there is a strong tendency for students to need more practice.
Luckily, the first chapter of The EBC Doctor TEFL Guide walks English teachers through three practice activities that they can have their students do. In the first activity, students will get to practice through the art of…song. Then, the second activity helps students recall grammar rules for modal auxiliary verbs. Finally, in the third activity, the students get to activate their learnings in a fun game done in pairs.
English teacher resources: Teaching English pronunciation
Teaching English pronunciation can get challenging. After all, when students feel scared to make a pronunciation mistake, it’s hard to get them to engage in class activities. However, the second chapter of The EBC Doctor TEFL Guide provides teachers with three activities to help students with their pronunciation.
In the first activity, students get to work with minimal pairs. Specifically, the phonetic sounds /eI/ as in “may” versus /aI/ like in “my”. The drill also comes with a student worksheet sample that you can use. Then, there is the second activity, which goes over long versus short vowel sounds. To wrap things up, the third activity has students work with voiced and unvoiced sounds.
English teacher resources: Teaching the present perfect
Once students “graduate” from present simple and past simple, it’s straight onto more complex tenses such as the present perfect. However, keep in mind that f you want to be an effective EFL teacher, it’s important to know grammar well enough to teach it. Also, remember that some language schools have applicants do a demonstration of a grammar lesson. Given this, you want to be on top of your grammar as an EFL teacher.
The third chapter of The EBC Doctor TEFL Guide gives teachers four different exercises. Each of them are on the present perfect, which can be a real challenge for students. While the first activity gives students oral practice with for and since, the second activity is more dynamic, as it involves a wall game. The third activity is an oral wrap up, and the fourth is another game, but one that has to do with backward spelling. Your students are bound to have a lot of fun with this one.
English teacher resources: Body part idiomatic phrases
Idiomatic phrases are fun both in and out of the classroom. Most languages have idioms and sayings, and some of them are pretty similar. For example, some of them are called similes and often start with ‘as’, e.g., as blind as a bat. Others relate to body parts. The fourth chapter of The EBC Doctor TEFL Guide gives teachers three fun class activities revolving around body part idiomatic phrases.
The first activity is the presentation of a list of idioms. There are thirteen listed in the section, and English teachers can simply print them and hand them out. The second activity is a fun matching activity that students can do either on their own or in pairs. The third activity is a group oral activity that students will have a lot of fun with.
